Hakeem the Dream

Will someone please admit that Hakeem Olajuwon is the most underrated player of all time? The dude was incredible- a top 5 player in my mind. In my opinion he is the greatest center of all time. I would give anything to see him go up against Bill Russel and Wilt the Stilt- problem is- I think it would be one sided in Dream's favor. Guy just had it all- the feet, the shot, the heart, and the City. He brought us 2 World Championships and almost a 3rd back in '86 against Larry's Celtics. The Dream averaged 21.8 points, 11.10 boards, 3.09 blocks, and 2.5 assists a game. All of his averages also went up in the playoffs to 25.9, 11.20, 3.26, and 3.2 respectively. This tells you one thing: he played his best when he needed his best. David Robinson made a bad mistake when he forgot to thank the Dream prior to that fateful night in the '95 Western Conference Finals. These numbers are incredible. The guy was incredible. Hell, I bet he could still be a force in the NBA. Yes, Shaq O'neil had arguably better regular season statistics than The Dream, but look what happened when they faced off in the '95 Finals. It was a complete mismatch. The "most dominant" player of our time couldn't do diddly. Patrick Ewing, while paying Jeff Van Gundy's mortgage, had decent stats but not close to The Dream. At least the Dream was nice enough to let him win in college before squashing his dreams in the big time. Thanks for all the memories Hakeem.
